New York Fashion Week finally drew to an end last Thursday, giving us time to look back on the ultimate trends that strutted down the catwalk. Collections featured recurring elements from the Spring 2016 shows – the ever-popular off-the-shoulder silhouette, but others felt more unique to this season, like extra-long sleeves and slick black PVC.
It does seem a bit early to think about Fall 2016 when summer hasn’t even began, however these top trends make us want winter to hurry up! The thought of being wrapped in a statement fur jacket and amazing shearling jackets definitely seems this will be a winter to look forward to.
Classic aviator-style shearling jackets are back for Fall 2016. Shearling jackets were spotted in many collections at NYFW. What’s really exciting is that they now come in a variety of cuts and colours. You can go classic in brown or black leather, or mix it up with a cropped or cocoon shape.
There was no shortage of fur (both real and faux) on the runways, which was especially fitting during the brutally cold days of NYFW. It was the use of bold colors and prints that really caught my eye. J.Crew and Rodarte presented colorful versions, while designers such as Tome and Michael Kors showcased “Revenant”worthy brown fur coats.
OFF THE SHOULDER CUTS.
Off the shoulder cuts were massive through 2015. Now designers have vamped up this trend for Fall 2016, presenting dramatic blouses and luxe-looking dresses with the subtly sexy silhouette.Once again bare shoulders and collarbones proved to be the most popular seductive zones of the season.
Velvet, a timelessly luxe fabric, showed no signs of going away this season. Ralph Lauren presented velvet evening gowns in black, claret, crimson and amethyst. While Lacoste presented velvet pants for men. Tory Burch, Naeem Khan and Jason Wu were also fans. Velvet is a warm thick fabric that revamps any ordinary outfit in your wardrobe.
The menswear trend is the ultimate classy look. While still being able to wear last season’s relaxed fit suit, designers have now upgraded the look by using menswear patterns and lots of tailoring. This board room style will raise your fashion standards giving you an elegant look.
TURTLENECKS UNDER DRESSES.
Following the layer trend of 2015, Fall 2016 brings an update style with long sleeve turtlenecks under dresses. This is ideal for wearing those skimpy dresses that you love but can’t wear until spring/summer.The juxtaposition of textures, prints and colours in this look really stood out on the catwalk in this trans-seasonal trend.
